The Customer

A key California gateway, breaking its own records

Palm Springs International Airport (PSP) is a key air travel gateway in California, served by twelve airlines including American, Delta, Alaska, Southwest and United, with nonstop flights to over 30 destinations. PSP partnered with AeroCloud in 2021 to support rising passenger numbers — and, sure enough, went on to break its own traffic record, welcoming more than 3.2 million passengers in 2023.

As demand grew, so did PSP’s use of the platform. What started as a single gate management deployment expanded into a full modular toolkit for tracking assets and managing inspections — all from one cloud-native, unlimited-user system.

The Solution

Rising passenger numbers, and hours lost to manual gate assignments

With increasing passenger traffic, PSP found it was losing more and more manhours to gate assignments. Coordinating schedules by hand meant staff time went into paperwork instead of passengers.

PSP wanted to alleviate staff from manual processing and free up their time — before growth made the problem bigger.

The Deployment

One cloud-native platform: gates, assets, and inspections together

PSP turned to automation to solve the issue, centralising and automating all gate operations through AeroCloud’s Gate Management System (GMS) — a module of AeroCloud’s intelligent Airport Management System (iAMS). Now PSP has a single source of truth for gate management, accessible by every relevant stakeholder through unlimited user licenses.

  • Centralised, automated gate operations through AeroCloud’s Gate Management System, a module of its intelligent Airport Management System (iAMS)
  • A single source of truth accessible by every stakeholder, with unlimited user licenses at no extra cost
  • Asset Management tracks the status of every airport asset, alongside repair work and maintenance expenditure
  • Inspection Management integrates seamlessly, logging airfield work requests and staff training for a full audit trail

Rapid CUPPS Deployment

PSP planned for a five-day CUPPS deployment. Using a mix of existing and off-the-shelf hardware, AeroCloud’s team had it live in three — with each of the roughly 45 check-in desks up and running in about three minutes.

Fewer queues, shorter wait times

PSP’s terminal was built in the 1950s, but today’s aircraft carry far more passengers and bags. Common-use desks and gates keep check-in moving, so passengers spend less time in line and more time at the gate or in retail.

Airlines are happier than ever

PSP’s airlines describe the system as faster, more accurate, and easier to use than what came before it — with support and collaboration they call some of the best they’ve worked with.
